When I wrote my first online book, I immediately had a web site created, and began to send traffic to my site. I bought traffic, asked for one -way links and did all the other things one does when they first get started online and they read the literature online under the category of 'traffic'. I did just about everything I could do to get traffic, and even received as many as 500 visitors some days. But the sales weren't keeping up with the traffic. I mean, there were very few sales.

But I stumbled on something incredible. I had started to submit articles to article directories to get the search engines to rank me more favorably. That was very effective - I have several top 3 spots in Google and Yahoo that I haven't done anything to keep in that spot in six months - the article marketing I did back then does all the work.

But the crazy thing is, that's not where my traffic comes from. My traffic comes from the direct links that I have in the articles I submit to one of the three top ezine directories online. That's right - I found that I was getting traffic, not from the search engine rankings, but from the direct links in the articles.

That really excited me, and still does! Now I write as many as 20 articles per day, because I know that when I write articles, I get traffic. And that traffic is quite profitable. People who join my list from an article spend 4x as much money with me as people who join from a wide variety of other sources.
